One of the rare species that you will be able to find in Phuket bird park is the grey African Crowned Crane. This bird is about 3.3 ft tall and has a wingspan of 6.5 ft. While their wings are mostly white, the rest of the body comes in a range of vibrant colors with a black patch on the top and a crown of stiff golden feathers on the head. African Crowned Crane is the only crane that can roost in trees and have long legs for walking on the grasses.

Bird lovers would be happy to take a look at this large pigeon with a grey head and short whitetail. A part of their body is covered with metallic green and they have strong legs and dull red feet. You will be able to differentiate between the male and female as the females are smaller in size and have browner underparts. Both males and females are known to be very vocal and give repetitive low-pitched calls. The pigeons feed on fruits, buds, seeds and grains and move in flocks.

It also uses its legs for self-defense and has the might enough to even kill a lion. Ostriches are even known for laying the largest eggs of any living land animal.


Peacocks are actually the male counterpart of a bird species Peafowl. The female peafowls are known as peahens. The peacocks are known especially for their extravagant plumage, which becomes enchanting to watch when they spread their covert feathers during courtship rituals. Peahens are smaller in size and have grey or brown feathers. Peafowls have a wing wingspan of up to 5 feet across and can grow up to 35 to 50 m in length. Both genders have a crest of feathers on their head and weigh around 8.75 to 13 lbs.

Timings: The Phuket Bird Park remains open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day. Do note that the last entry is at 3:00 PM. The Phuket Bird Park Show is held thrice a day at - 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM and the last show is scheduled at 3:30 PM.

Best Time To Visit: You can schedule to visit the park at its early opening hours as the weather is pleasant. Visiting in the early hours will give you more time as 2-3 hours required to visit the place, watch the shows and interact with the birds. Try to visit at a time which coincides with the timing of the bird show held at 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
